Welcome Fiona Anne

On October 21, 2011 at 11:48am, Fiona Anne Smith was born. Weighing just 7lbs 4oz and being 18 1/2" long she was a small baby but a very large blessing. After nine long months of waiting and wondering what she would be like, we finally got to meet her and fall in love all over again.

Big sister Angelica was excited to meet the new baby, her little sister. She had been referring to the baby as "baby" and "T-T" for several months, but after meeting her, Angelica settled on the nickname of "Nona" or "Baby Nona" The name has stuck and we have been calling her that ever since. Here is our first family photo, taken by Fiona's Godmother and my friend, Jen.
After spending less than 48 hours in the hospital, we came home and this is what we found...Angelica and Auntie Lisa had decorated the driveway to welcome Fiona as she arrived home for the first time.

At less than a week old, we had Fiona's newborn photos taken professionally. Here are some of them. As you can see, she is very alert. Our photo session lasted almost 2 hours and Fiona was awake for about an hour and forty-five minutes!

We are happy to have Fiona in our lives and in our family. She is now 6 weeks old and growing well. At her 1 month checkup she was already up to 22" and just over 8lbs. She is very different from our first baby. She is a light sleeper and doesn't sleep much during the day, but sleeps pretty good at night. She is a bit more fussy too. It's been a challenge in taking care of an almost 2 year old and a newborn at the same time, but we are doing ok. The most rewarding thing is to see Angelica and Fiona together. Angelica has a way of calming Fiona down and Fiona has a way of bringing out the best in Angelica. I can't wait to watch them grow up together. God has certainly blessed us with two wonderful little girls and we feel very lucky.

Fall 2011

The past few months have been both fun and tiring. I feel a little guilty that Angelica's days as an only child are numbered and I have been trying to do as many fun things with her as possible. Here are a few pictures that I thought were cute. I noticed that most of the pictures I take seem to be vertical rather than horizontal. I don't know why, but I may need to switch it up more. I have several frames that require horizontal pictures and I don't have many options!

Angelica's Summer

Angelica has had one busy summer. Here are a few of the highlights...

beating her first pinata at her cousin Jeff's 4th birthday party.

going down the big slide 4 times (at $3.00/ride) at the Beecher carnival with daddy.

We converted her crib to a toddler bed on the 4th of July. She did good with it.

I thought she would get up and run wild around her room, but at the end of naptime, this is how we found her.

She was seriously THIS excited about the firetrucks blowing their horns in the Beecher 4th of July parade.

Angelica taking her BFF Rusty for a ride around the kitchen in her wheeled toy crate.

 Wearing daddy's shoes.

She LOVES technology. My cousin Kara's fiance Jeff has a 6 year old daughter named Kendall. They came to stay with us mid-July when I threw Kara's bridal shower. Kendall was happy to share her laptop with Angelica and Angelica was thrilled!

She did good with the toddler bed and thanks to some very generous friends, we got a full size mattress. We converted her crib futher to a full size bed so that we could move the crib mattress to Fiona's room. I was more nervous about this conversion. She did good though. She fell off the foot of the bed the first night, but since then she has been doing great. She has been in the big bed for over a month now and seems to enjoy it.

her room - rearranged and with new bedding to make for a big girl room

sleeping in the big bed

At Brookfield Zoo sharing lunches with her friend ("step-cousin") Olivia.

eating chips at Mi Ranchito in Lowell with her new friend Lucas.

TUB TIME!

Our old childhood neighbors came to visit us at the end of July. Mike, Kim, me, Nikki, Lisa & Angelica.

enjoying a pontoon boat ride on Lake Holiday at my grandma Lannon's cousins family reunion

Her first french braid...I cannot even tell you how long I have been waiting to do this!!!

 Last day of summer gymnastics

Her absolute favorite thing to do at gymnastics, swing from the bar. She is a strong girl!

getting her medal and hand stamp for completing summer gymnastics

All smiles, getting ready to go to Jack's 1st Birthday party

Me and my girl - finally I am not behind the camera!

Playing with baby Lucas. I think she will be a good big sister.

Feeding the deer at Deer Forest in Coloma, MI. She wanted to feed them one kernel of corn at a time. The deer were not into that.
